God You Are Imminent
Psalm 123:1-2
Hi everybody, welcome to My Daily Church podcast. If you have a Bible, grab it. If you’re using our phone app, you can get the NLT version right in the bottom menu bar. Grab something you can make notes with. If you take the time and make the effort to grab a Bible and make some notes, it’s really going to help you actually interact with God today, and that’s our goal.
I’d like to pray a prayer with you this morning that was inspired for me by a book called, Prayers on Fire. The title of the prayer devotion this morning is, “Imminent.” Imminent as in God, you are imminent. It means God is here. He is close by and he is about to work, God is about to move. And we say, this morning, God you are imminent.
Our scripture today is from Psalm 123:1-2. I’m going to start with the NLT and then I am going to read it from the HCSB, the Holman Christian Standard Bible, and even the paraphrase “The Message” just to help us get a grasp on it.
Psalm 123:1-2 (NLT) 1 I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. 2 We keep looking to the Lord our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master…
Psalm 123:1-2 (HCSB) 1 I lift my eyes to You, the One enthroned in heaven. 2 Like a servant’s eyes on his master’s hand, …so our eyes are on the Lord our God until He shows us favor.
Psalm 123:1-2 (MSG) I look to you, heaven-dwelling God, look up to you for help.
Like servants, alert to their master’s commands, …We’re watching and waiting, holding our breath, awaiting your word of mercy.
That’s good! Let’s pray.
Lord, God in Heaven, you are enthroned in my heart today. And God, that is a finished work. That’s a done deal, Lord. You are the Lord of my life unquestionably. And Lord my prayer today, is that I may be consumed with the desire, with the commitment to experience your presence, Lord. To experience your closeness, Lord. To experience – not my world but your world. Lord, my desire, my commitment today is to know you and to experience not what is seen, but what is unseen. To know your reality and your truths more than mine today.
2 Corinthians 5:7 says, for we walk by faith and not by sight. And Lord, that’s what I need to do today. 2 Corinthians 4:18 says, so we don’t look at the troubles we can see now, rather we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now, will soon be gone. But the things we cannot see will last forever.
Lord, may I be committed today to see you. To walk in your presence, Lord. To be focused on your reality more than mine; on what is true in your reality more than what I see in my reality. Lord may you be the driving divine truth that guides me and that purifies my motives. Lord, may you cleanse my heart with your presence and for your purpose. And may you lead me and guide me for your name’s sake.
And Lord, this morning I say you absorb all my failures. In fact, Lord, you are at work in all of my failures. And, Lord, my failures keep me intensely looking to you for your unending mercy and your grace every morning. Your mercies are new every morning, Lord, and your grace is unending. And Lord, my life has caused me to cling to you for those things. And Lord, when you speak to me my heart comes alive. And Lord, I pray today, make it even more so. When you whisper my soul finds peace. Lord, let me hear your whisper. Make me to hear your still small voice that brings peace to my soul.
Lord, you are the breath of life that drives me forward. Lord, fill me with your breath of life, fill me afresh and anew today. Continue to push me like wind in my sails, continue to drive me forward to what you have for me, Lord. Lord, you are the grace that I need new every morning. You are. I need you, your grace new every morning. And I thank you Lord for always pouring out your grace afresh and anew on me each day.
And Lord, I pray that you would continue to ignite that fire that’s burning deep within me, that’s ignited by your touch, that’s ignited by your breath, by your presence. Lord, my life’s desire is to know you Lord, that I may know you. To know you more and more. To know you in every situation, Lord, and to honor you with all of my life. And Lord, I pray that I would live a life of unrelenting devotion, pressing in to know the deep things that you’ve hidden for me to find in my life. And Lord, make me pure in heart that I may see you.
Psalm 24:3-4 says, who may stand in the Lord’s holy place? Only those whose hands and hearts are pure. And so, Lord, I say purify my hands and my heart that I may see you, that I may stand in your presence. That I may enter that holy place and receive all that I need from you, Lord.
And Lord, today, please overwhelm me with the confidence that you are imminent. Lord you are imminent, you are near. Lord, you are about to show up in my life. You’re about to move, Lord. You are imminent and I will lift my eyes to you, oh God, enthroned in heaven, and I will keep looking to you as my Lord and my God for your mercy and for your grace just as a servant keeps their eyes intently on their master. I will keep my eyes on you, Lord.
And Lord, I say, here am I. I’m here, Lord. You’ve said seek my face and Lord I’ve said your face I will seek. I seek you today, Lord and I pray that you would pour out your Spirit on me today for your glory, and in your name, Jesus, amen.
