Message 16
Last week, in the message titled "The Claims of Christ - Equality," the Pharisees decided they must kill Jesus, and John 5, verse 18, told us why.
John 5:18 (NLT)
18 So the Jewish leaders tried all the harder to find a way to kill him. For he not only broke the Sabbath, he called God his Father, thereby making himself equal with God.
And so, Jesus began responding to the religious leaders last week with the claim of full equality with God.
Today, in verses 24-30, Jesus expands that claim by declaring his authority over eternal life, resurrection, and judgment, things only God can rightly claim authority over. In this passage, we will see the Spiritual Resurrection available now for all who will put their faith in Jesus. Then, there will be two physical resurrections in the future.
One for those who stand in the righteousness of Jesus Christ
One for those who try to stand in their own righteousness
So, generally speaking, there are two primary physical resurrections. But here is what I pray you will hear and receive today. There is actually a spiritual resurrection, and that is the most critical resurrection of all. And the Bible is clear that today, you are in only one of two places regarding the most important resurrection for your eternity. Either you have already experienced this most important spiritual resurrection, or you can experience it today. If you choose to reject God's free gift of the spiritual resurrection available in this life, then you will not take part in the physical resurrection unto life in eternity.
