More Hell, No repentance

Revelation 9:13-21

Message #20

Can I please begin with a public service announcement? Please STOP believing what you hear or see on the mainstream news channels. I’m begging you, stop being indoctrinated by the psychological control of what used to be called “The News.” In the mainstream media, it is NOT the news. It is not intended to BE the news. Maybe you can trust some of what they say in the weather and sports segments – but please stop believing what you see and hear on the mainstream media about Israel and this war. Please. And you must be ten times more careful with social media. If you are scrolling through social media, first, don’t believe it until you know the source.

So, let me give you three options. Yes, they are news sources, but they are all news sources that are truly committed to standing against the media propaganda machine that is deceiving the vast majority of our nation.

So, regarding Israel and this WAR, your number one source for accurate information from the very inside of this war is Behold Israel. For news other than Israel, I would highly recommend these two news outlets. NewsMax and Epoch Times.

Alright, in our last message in Revelation, we started looking at A Picture of Hell on Earth, and Revelation Chapter 9 continues that theme today. But before we just dive back in, let’s remember one of the problems we have with Revelation is that we would like it to read more like a movie plot. But it is not written like a movie plot. It’s written more like a journal of what John is seeing. John is witnessing so much in this barrage of Revelation, and he can only write about one event at a time.

Some events are finite (meaning they start and finish)
Some events are continual
Some events begin inside other events

And so, we cannot force Revelation into a perfectly chronological script.

Which is okay because that is not the primary purpose of Revelation. The primary purpose of Revelation is encouragement.

To those who do believe – it is encouragement because Jesus Christ wins in the end, and we win with him.

And to those who do not believe – it is encouragement to put their faith in Jesus Christ and join Jesus in his victory and escape the wrath that must come upon the sin and evil in this world.

So, today, we’re going to see more hell on Earth, and we’re also going to see the beginning of the next phase of the Tribulation. This is a critical juncture in Revelation because we actually see the beginning of the “second half” of the Tribulation. We don’t know exactly when the Antichrist and the Abomination of Desolation is coming, but we are basically at that mid-point.

The Tribulation started with a scroll with seven Seals (The title deed to the Earth), which was given to Jesus Christ as the Earth’s only rightful owner, and the opening of those seven seals was the beginning of the judgments upon the Earth. Then, in the seventh seal were seven trumpet judgments (which is where we are now), and in the seventh Trumpet there will be seven final bowl judgments which will (ultimately) bring the end of the Tribulation and the beginning of the Millennium and eternity with the Lord.

And so, in the Trumpet judgments (where we currently are):

We’ve seen Five of the Seven Trumpets blown
#1). Hail and Fire thrown down on the Earth – scorching one-third of the Earth
#2). A mountain of fire thrown into the sea – destroying one-third of the sea
#3). A flaming star falls and destroys one-third of the fresh water
#4). One-third of the Sun, moon, and stars were destroyed
#5). Locusts from Hell

Then, an eagle flies through Heaven crying, Woe! Woe! Woe! And announcing the remaining three Trumpets are worse than anything that has happened up to this point.

In our last message, we looked at the fifth Trumpet (the first woe!), where Satan is thrown to Earth, and he is given a key to the abyss of Hell, and Satan is allowed to turn the worst of Hell loose on Earth for five months. These demons came in the form of locusts, and they tortured any person who was not sealed by God for five months, and though the people longed to die, they were not allowed to. This was the first of the three Woe’s (terrors) that the angel announced at the end of Chapter 8. Today, we see the next woe (terror), and this terror builds on (and intensifies) the one before it.

And God has multiple purposes for these events and the judgments of the Tribulation. But the purpose most applicable to us here today is that at the end of this next “Woe,” we will see how the people still on the Earth respond to God in either repentance or rejection.

Please hear this – because God is perfectly holy and righteous, and just he must judge the sin and evil that is in this world. And because God is perfect love, he has made a way for us to escape that judgment through our faith in Jesus Christ. Through our faith in Christ, we have become so identified with Jesus that what he’s done is credited to us. So, he paid for the sin of the world; it’s credited to us, and we escape the judgment that must come upon the world. So, next time someone says to you, “Well, if God was such a loving God, he would this or he would that,” you let them know that God is a loving and he’s made a way for each of us to escape and have victory over this world.

So, let’s start in Revelation 9, verse 13.

Revelation 9:13 (NLT)
13 Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice speaking from the four horns of the gold altar that stands in the presence of God.

For the third time, we have a judgment connected to the golden altar in Heaven. This altar is the altar of incense in the Holy Place that represents the prayers of the Saints. In Revelation 6, we saw the martyrs under this altar crying out for God to avenge their deaths. In Revelation 8, we saw the prayers of the Saints rising from this altar that started the Trumpet judgments. And now, the judgment of the sixth Trumpet is again going to come from this golden altar.

So, if you’ve ever wondered about the role that prayer has in the plans and purposes of God, the fact that these three critical events are all tied to the altar that represents our prayers should show us how vital our prayers are in God’s work.

So, a voice comes from the golden altar. And then we read this.

Revelation 9:14 (NLT)
14 And the voice said to the sixth angel who held the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great Euphrates River.”

There are heavenly angels and hellish angels. But heavenly angels are never bound anywhere. These are demonic angels that have been bound at the Euphrates River and imprisoned here for this exact moment.

The Euphrates River (where these demonic angels are bound) is a critically important river in the Bible. It flows from the place where the Garden of Eden was.

But – it is ALSO the place of:
The First Sin
The First Murder
The Tower of Babel
and the City of Babylon,
which becomes very important (later)
So, here’s an interesting little side note. This area, where ancient Babylon is, is fifty miles from Bagdad in Iraq. And we now have the largest military embassy in the world along the Euphrates River outside of Bagdad, right now. Seven thousand troops and personnel the United States has at a fully self-contained massive military embassy near the banks of the Euphrates River not far (less than twenty miles) from ancient Babylon. Now, why would we do that? So, watch for that in the end. (The United States isn’t named in the End Times, but it’s just interesting that we would build such a huge military complex there.)

And so, we read in Revelation 9, verse 15:

Revelation 9:15 (NLT)
15 Then the four angels who had been prepared for this hour and day and month and year were turned loose to kill one-third of all the people on Earth.

These four Demonic Angels
were not just prepared for the year
OR just for the month
Or just for the day
They were prepared for this very hour!!

And they will bring death to an additional one-third of all Mankind remaining on the Earth.

In our last message, hell was allowed to bring tortuous torment upon the world (Locusts). Today, hell is allowed to bring an unimaginable level of war upon the world. Both the hellish torment of the last message and the hellish war in this message are brought on by the worst of the demonic world that has been bound in chains by God until this very moment.

In the last message, we read that these demons are led by their King – Satan (The Destroyer), who will eventually amass all the world’s armies to fight against the Son of God himself when Jesus returns.

But here we see the world that seems to love war is going to get more war than they ever imagined.

Revelation 9:15–16 (NLT)
15 Then the four angels who had been prepared for this hour and day and month and year were turned loose to kill one-third of all the people on Earth.
16 I heard the size of their army, which was 200 million mounted troops.

The size of their “their army” (the demon’s army) was 200 million mounted troops.
Now, this army of 200 million has brought about much speculation and attempted interpretation.

Listen, here’s how we interpret Revelation. We start with what we know, not with what we speculate, not what we think. Not what some guy on YouTube with a pinky ring told us it means. Don’t watch crazy people on YouTube. Watch Amir Tsarfati. Watch people you can trust.

What we know is these demons have an army of 200 million strong. Some scholars believe this is a demonic army because that is the simplest (most literal) interpretation, and some scholars believe these demonic angels “take control” of a human army of 200 million to do their work.

Now, please listen to me carefully right here. I am okay with this being either a demonic army or a demonic-inspired human army because either way, I won’t be here, and I pray you won’t be either.

In either case, this is an army of 200 million led by the forces of hell, and it is released to kill one-third of the remaining population on Earth. And verse 16 says John heard the exact number, and he had to hear it to be able to write it because whether a demonic army – this is a mind-boggling – massive army. This isn’t a random number. He says he heard the number; we believe he heard the number. 200 million. There’s a word that comes from the King James lineage that is myriad. Myriad upon myriads. The word “myriad” can be an innumerable number. But John said he heard the number, so we just have to say John heard the number. An army that big is mind-boggling.

Again, most literal scholars leave this as a “demonic army.” But maybe you’ve heard how this could be a demonically controlled human army. So, let me show you how people do that.

This is the 6th Trumpet Judgment (here in Chapter 9), and way ahead in Revelation Chapter 16 is the 6th Bowl Judgment and some people say the 6th Trumpet Judgment and the 6th Bowl Judgment are parallel (connected) and here is what the 6th Bowl Judgment.

Revelation 16, verses 12-14 say,

Revelation 16:12–14 (NLT)
12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great Euphrates River, and it dried up so that the kings from the east could march their armies toward the west without hindrance.

Now, in Revelation 16, this is speaking of Satan gathering the armies of the world together for the Great Battle of Armageddon (which we will get to). But interestingly, if you go east of Israel past the Euphrates River, here are the kingdoms you get to.

The kingdoms
1). Iraq
2). Iran
3). Afghanistan
4). Pakistan
5). China

And today, these countries together could easily amass an army of 200 million.

And if you’ve heard of the China Belt and Road initiative (Silk Road), then you know China started ten years ago building a super highway basically through these same countries that could potentially carry an army of 200 million right to Israel’s doorstep.

And so, some say the four demons released here in Chapter 9 at the Euphrates River to attack Israel at the final battle of Armageddon.

So, you pick: do you prefer 200 million demons killing one-third of the remaining population on Earth? OR do you prefer 200 million demonic-controlled HAMAS Terrorists killing one-third of the remaining population on Earth?

Either way, this 6th Trumpet in Revelation Chapter 6 is a demonic beginning of the phase of Tribulation that is consumed by war.

From here on out, there will be
War on Earth
War in Heaven
And finally, the armies of the Earth will wage war against the King of Heaven.

And as we continue reading the description of this massive killing machine army, the speculation doesn’t get any easier. But remember, us “guessing correctly” about what or who this army is is not really the point. The point is what comes after John’s description of this army.

When I read you this description of the army, don’t go off on the speculation because there is something more important than the speculation. But 1st, here is John’s description of the army amassed by these four demons (bound at the Euphrates).

Revelation 9:17–19 (NLT)
17 And in my vision, I saw the horses and the riders sitting on them. The riders wore armor that was fiery red and dark blue and yellow. The horses had heads like lions, and fire and smoke and burning sulfur billowed from their mouths.
18 One-third of all the people on Earth were killed by these three plagues—by the fire and smoke and burning sulfur that came from the mouths of the horses.
19 Their power was in their mouths and in their tails. For their tails had heads like snakes, with the power to injure people.

If we take this more literally, we’d lean to this being an army of 200 million demons. If we take this more figuratively, we could easily come up with some type of military figurative language.

But Revelation was not written so we could have speculation. John is trying to describe what he sees.

But, instead of spinning speculations and ideas. Is it okay if we get to what I see as the main point of our text today?

Here it is.

What is the response of the people who are still on Earth to these immeasurable catastrophes and unimaginable war and death? How did the people who were still on Earth RESPOND?

Revelation 9:20 (NLT)
20 But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood—idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk!

Mankind remaining on Earth at this time still refused to repent and turn to God, and they steadfastly continued to worship demons and worthless idols.

This world will still be worshipping its own worthless idols and things that come from the demonic world; ultimately, they will be worshiping the Antichrist, and they will still refuse to repent of their evil deed and turn to God.

What you worship – you become!

Revelation 9:21 (NLT)
21 And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft (Greek word pharmakeia, which means the access through drugs of the demonic world) or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

Wait a minute – that sounds like today!! In fact, that is a list of what THE ARMY OF Hamas is doing to babies and children in Israel right now.

Listen, please, in the Tribulation the heart of mankind in the face of God’s judgment, will become harder and harder toward God because the judgment of God is like the heat of the sun. The same heat of the sun will harden clay, and it will melt wax. The difference is not the sun – the difference is the condition of your heart. If your heart is hard toward God, his judgment will make it harder and harder. But, if our heart is soft toward God, even the thought of his judgment will melt your heart toward him.

The judgment that is coming upon this Earth is a result of:
1). The Holiness of God
2). The Sinfulness of Man
3). The War that Satan is waging against God

But Satan is going to lose along with all those who choose to join him in war against God because Jesus Christ has already won this victory.

And you can choose today to receive the eternal victory that Christ has already won on your behalf. You can’t earn it, you can’t deserve it – but you can receive it freely – today!

You can acknowledge your sin against God today and repent of it. You can choose to be born again through faith in Jesus Christ, and you can begin living in the victory of God’s eternal life today.

God IS LOVE – HE LOVES YOU!!! And he has made (ONE WAY) for you to escape the coming judgment, and that only way is through faith in Jesus Christ.
