You Made Me
Psalm 139:13-18
Hi everybody, it’s Pastor Dave. Welcome to the My Daily Church Podcast. Grab a Bible and turn it to Psalm 139. I use the NLT. We’re going to be in verses 13-18. These are awesome verses and my prayer is that they would give you peace and confidence to know that God is intimately involved in your life.
This is part three of our series in Psalm 139. The first devotion was titled, “God You Know Me.” The second devotion was titled, “God You Are With Me.” This last part is titled, “You Made Me.”
My prayer is that these verses would be like God just pouring a healing oil of comfort and assurance that God knows you. That God is with you. And that God made you. We need the comfort and assurance that Psalm 139 gives us. So, I pray you receive that from the Lord today.
God, you made me.
Psalm 139:13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Lord, you actually made all of the delicate parts of my body. And Lord, you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Lord, you didn’t just start some scientific process that ran itself. Lord, you made me. You specifically made me. You fashioned me. You formed me. You made my innermost being, Lord. Spirit, soul and body, you knit me personally together in my mother’s womb.
Verse 14 says, Thank you (Lord) – and Lord, I thank you, for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Lord, make me to know that. Make me to know how wonderfully complex you made me, personally. Intimately. Make me to know how truly marvelous your workmanship within me is. Lord, you made me – me. Lord, make me to know that. May I know that better, that you made me – me. Below the effects of this fallen world, Lord, below the scars and the difficulty and the confusion caused by sin, Lord, I am fearfully and wonderfully made by you. Thank you, Lord, for making me just as you made me. And thank you that you can and will restore me to the wonderfully complex and marvelous workmanship that you created me with. Lord, the world has pushed and shoved and tried to change and Lord destroy even how you’ve made me. But Lord, you made me wonderfully and perfectly.
Verse 15 says, (Lord) You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. Lord, you watched me. Your eye was on me as I was being formed, Lord, you know exactly how I was made and you know exactly why I was made. As I was being woven together in my mother’s womb, Lord, you watched me. You were aware. You knew me then. Exactly how you were forming me, you knew exactly how you were sculpting me for your glory. You made me Lord, ultimately, for your glory.
Verse 16 says, You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. Lord, you saw me before I was born, not just, Lord, not just saw me being formed in the womb. You saw my entire life before I was even born. Every day that would occur in my life, Lord, you saw it all. Every day of joy. Every day of sorrow. Every blessing. Every trauma. Every choice. Every decision. Every experience and every failure. Lord, you saw them all. And not from afar. Not from some distant place, Lord. You saw them up close and personal because Lord, you would be with me in each of those moments. And Lord, you knew them all before even one of them had existed, you saw them all before one existed. Every moment, of every day was laid out like an open book to you, while I was still being formed in the womb.
Verses 17-18 say, How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! 18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! Lord, what do I say about these incredible verses? Lord, they’re truly beyond my ability to fully comprehend. Lord, they’re so overwhelming. They’re so magnificent Lord, that they leave me speechless.
And so, Lord, I can only know what I know. And this is what I know from this incredible Psalm.
You KNOW me – you know me deeply and personally.
You are WITH me – you are with me now and you always have been because, Lord
You MADE me – you made me Lord, fearfully, wonderfully, marvelously complex. You made me.
And Lord, knowing all there is to know about me, you died for me. You died for me Lord to pay the price required for all of my sin so that I could spend eternity with you in this relationship that is so intensely personal. Lord, it’s so difficult to comprehend the depth and the breadth of your thoughts toward me. I couldn’t count them anymore than I could count the sand of the sea, Lord.
And Lord, what’s most amazing is through it all, each morning when I wake up, you are with me. As each day passes, you are with me because you made me. Because you formed me and because Lord, I am yours. You made me for yourself. For your glory and for an eternal relationship with you. And Lord, your love for me will never change, and you will always be with me every day until that day that I am physically with you.
Lord Jesus, may I rest in these incredible life-changing truths. May I believe them. May I believe them more and more each day, and may I receive them more and more into my life for what they are and what they mean, Lord. The incredible, indescribable promise of your intimate knowledge and involvement in my life, Lord, is so amazingly personal. Lord, there’s so many things in my life that I don’t understand. So many things that I can’t see the reason for. But, Jesus, I see you. I know you. And I know your incredible, loving involvement in my life.
And in the end, I know this, Lord. The one who made me, has been with me all of my days. All the days of my life. And Lord, you have been at work for my ultimate good in and through it all. And so, Lord, I commit today to rest in that. Lord Jesus, I rest in you today, in who you are and how magnificent your involvement in my life has been.
I rest in your unshakable truth, Lord that you made me, that you know me, and that you are with me. Thank you, Jesus, may it all be for your glory. It’s in your mighty name Jesus, I pray, amen.
