The Right Text

2 Timothy 3:16

Message # 3

Let's start with the TRUTH - we are giving ASSURANCE of in this series.

The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is a reliable collection of historical documents. The New Testament, specifically, was written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses, documenting supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific Old Testament prophecies, with clear evidence of a divine origin.

This is our third message in the "Why Believe The Bible?" series.

1). We started with an overview of "Why Believe The Bible?"
2). We looked at how do we know we have "The Right Books"
3). Today - How do we know we have "The Right Text"

I want us to know WHY we believe 2 Timothy 3, verse 16.

2 Timothy 3:16 (a) (NLT)
16 All Scripture is inspired by God . . .

The ESV says:
2 Timothy 3:16(a) (ESV)
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God . . .

The Greek word is most literally "God-Breathed"
It means the words of the Bible were given by God to men who were directed by the Holy Spirit in their writings so that their writings would be the WORDS of God (God-Breathed) and without error.

2 Peter 1, verses 20-21 say the same thing.

2 Peter 1:20–21 (NLT)
20 Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding,
21 or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

Our goal today is to know WHY we can believe that.
