The Holy Spirit
John 14:25-28

Week 6/Day 3

Hi everyone, it’s Pastor Dave here today with a journal guide on John 14:25-28. So, grab your Bible, and open it to that passage. Let me pray, and we’ll read the verses.

Heavenly Father, as we turn to your Word today, would you speak to us, Lord, through your Living Word and by the power and the presence of your Holy Spirit in us? Lord, speak to us today, we pray, in your name, Jesus, amen.

Here we go, starting in verse 25 with Jesus speaking.

John 14:25-28 (NLT)
25 I am telling you these things now while I am still with you.
26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
28 Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am.

Alright, let’s stop right there for today. And let’s start with the Meditate section. What is God’s Word saying here? Not what’s it saying to you, just what is it saying? What are the spiritual principles that are here? Look at verse 26. Notice that Jesus says the Holy Spirit is his representative. I think that’s really important because the role of the Holy Spirit, or at least one of his roles, is to be the member of the Godhead that lives within us. That’s why we’re called the temple of the Holy Spirit. And one of the things that the Holy Spirit does is he teaches us. He leads us into all truth. And he brings up God’s Word to us just when we need it.

And then, Jesus says in verse 27, I’m leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And guys, that gift comes in the Person of the Holy Spirit living unrestrained in your life. It’s the Holy Spirit living inside of us that provides that peace of mind and heart that the world cannot give us. And so, because of that, we don’t need to be troubled, and we don’t need to be afraid. We can have the peace that passes understanding through the Person and the power of the Holy Spirit living inside us.

And then, in verse 28, Jesus says, I’m going away, but I will come back to you again. But Jesus has already made it clear that it is the Holy Spirit that is coming back as his representative. Guys, the Holy Spirit is the life of the Godhead living in us. Alright, in your Meditate section, write what God’s Word is saying here.

Next, let’s do the Apply section. How do these truths apply to my life today, personally and specifically? Well, for me, I know that I need the Holy Spirit to have full reign in my life. I need the Holy Spirit to teach me and to lead me into truth, and to bring up God’s Word to me when I need it most. I need the Holy Spirit to be my peace of mind and the peace in my heart. I need the Holy Spirit living inside me as the gift of peace that the world can never, ever give. And in that peace that the Holy Spirit provides, I don’t need to be troubled, and I don’t need to be afraid. Jesus Christ lives in me by the power of the Holy Spirit. And by his Spirit, he teaches and guides me and gives me the peace of God that I need. Alright, that’s how it applies to my life. You write how does this apply to your life personally and specifically today.

Okay, now the Respond section. What action will I take today in response to these truths? For me, I will trust the Person of the Holy Spirit. That’s my commitment. I will trust the Person of the Holy Spirit living inside me. I will listen to him teach me, and I will hear and receive God’s Word that he brings up in my heart. And as I walk with Jesus filled daily with his Holy Spirit, I will cling to him for peace of mind and heart. I will receive that gift that Jesus died to give me, and I will seek to know deeper and deeper the Person and the power and the peace that the Father has sent me because of his love and that Jesus Christ has died for my sins in order to give me, and that the Holy Spirit lives within me to exist as. He exists as my teacher and my guide, and my peace.

Okay, maybe you want to read through what you wrote in the Meditate and Apply sections and then write your response, your personal response. What action will you take in response to this truth? So, write that in the Respond section of your journal.

And then, finally, write a prayer to align your heart with the will of God on this truth. Here’s my prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for all that you’ve given me in the Person of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for teaching me, for bringing up scripture to me, to my mind. Thank you that you are my peace of mind and heart. I pray that you would fill me every day with your wisdom and your Word, your presence, and your peace and your power over the enemy. In the precious name of Jesus, amen.

Alright, guys, go ahead; in the Pray section, you write your prayer. And remember to always be thankful for all that God has given you through Jesus Christ and in the Person of the Holy Spirit. Talk to you soon, bye-bye.
