The Importance of Godly Decision Making

1 Corinthians 6:19(b)-20(a) (NIV) 19 . . . You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. . . .

When I was a teenager, my dad — like every good dad — warned me about the importance of making wise decisions. He used to say life is all about making the right choices that align with God’s will. “You never want to be out of God’s will,” he’d say. “It’s the safest place for you to be, even if it feels uncomfortable.”

When I read the verse we’re meditating on today, I think about God’s decision to choose us, His decision to pay for our transgressions. Our Heavenly Father made the most loving decision he could make for us and showed us how powerful decisions made from unconditional love can be. He also made us one with Him so that the decisions we make going forward must be aligned with His character because we belong to Him.

It is our responsibility to love and obey God by making godly choices, and that interweave His Word into our day-by-day decision-making.

Questions: What decisions do you have to make this week? Maybe you have a big decision to make, like a career change, or maybe you only have small choices to make, like what to eat or which movie to watch. How can you make any choice a godly choice? In what ways can you intentionally align your decision-making with God’s will for your life?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please guide me. Direct my path. Help me to make decisions that serve and honor you. Help me to get out of my own way and to take a stand against the world and my flesh by acting in a way that delights you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
