Practicing Love

1 Corinthians 13:8-13 (CEB) 8 Love never fails. As for prophecies, they will be brought to an end. As for tongues, they will stop. As for knowledge, it will be brought to an end. 9 We know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, what is partial will be brought to an end. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, reason like a child, think like a child. But now that I have become a man, I’ve put an end to childish things. 12 Now we see a reflection in a mirror; then we will see face-to-face. Now I know partially, but then I will know completely in the same way that I have been completely known. 13 Now faith, hope, and love remain—these three things—and the greatest of these is love.

As Christians, Godly love is a skill we need to strengthen with daily practice. We must learn and train ourselves to do everything with love. When we intentionally set out each day to love the world back to God one person at a time, we become transformed in a way that only Jesus can transform us. Going to church is great, but living in the real world and applying the love of God as we share the gospel and lead by example is how we actually become disciples of Christ.

Questions: What can you do this week to practice allowing God’s light to shine through you? What specific action will you take to apply the love of God to another person?

Prayer: Lord, please help me to be intentional about living as a disciple. Please work in me so that others may see your light shining through me. May my love and devotion to you be more than the scripture I read or the worship songs I sing. Put people on my path who need to hear about you and help me to have the courage to radiate your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
