God Will Take Care of Us
Hebrews 13:5-6

Week 4/Day 2

Hey, all. It’s Daisy. And today, I’m inviting you to join me as we open our Bibles and spend some quality alone time with God in his Word together. To follow along, you need your Bible, a pen, and a designated journal. If you have our Alone With God journal, please use that and follow along with it.

And if you don’t have our Alone With God journal, what are you doing? Please reach out to our team so that we can get you one. The Alone With God journal is custom-made. It is perfect for practicing spending alone time in the scripture, so you can transform your life through the Living Word of God. It’s a really powerful resource. If you would like to order one, you can go to wordbymail.com.

Today we are meditating on Hebrews 13:5-6. I will read the passage a couple of times, and then I want you to pause and read the verse on your own a few times. That way, the scripture really sinks in, and you can really meditate on it and think about it. And as you’re reading it, think about what is God really saying here.

Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.

Go ahead and, in the Meditate section of your journal, write what God is saying here. What are the spiritual principles? Why does it matter? Why is this important to God?

So, the reason I chose this verse is because sometimes I have a really hard time trusting people. Trust can leave us feeling so vulnerable and exposed, and it’s such an uncomfortable feeling knowing that your trust could be violated or broken. But with God, it’s such a different story because made us, and he knows how vulnerable we are. He sees how fragile humanity is.

And so, when we trust God, it’s not the same as trusting a friend to pay back a loan. Or for someone to not let us down because God is always making good on his promises and never abandons us. He does not leave us alone with our fear. It is the one thing that we can count on in this world – even though we have trouble, we have peace. So, we can rest knowing that we can always count on God, no matter where we are in life and no matter what is happening in our current circumstances. His ways are not our ways, and his promises are not our promises, so he can be fully trusted with our lives and with our problems.

Go ahead and pause now, and in the Apply section of your journal, you’re going to write down your thoughts about what stands out to you about these verses. Some questions you can think about are what areas of your life don’t satisfy you? What areas of your life do you feel like you could use more trust? Do you feel discontent? Reflect and apply this passage to your life.

Okay, now we’re going to take a moment and respond to God. In the Respond section of your journal, write down what actions you can be taking this week to bring this verse to life. How is God asking you to grow in your relationship with him? How is he asking you to trust him more? And what would it look like if you turned the areas of dissatisfaction in your life into trust? How can you trust God with this situation instead?

Finally, we are going to pray. I will close us out with a prayer together. And you, in the Pray section of your journal, write your prayer to God. Write your prayer to align your heart with God’s will in what he has impressed on you today in your time alone with him.

Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, trust is hard. Please help turn my fearful and untrusting human heart towards you. Help me to have faith in your promises. Help me to know that it’s safe for me to be vulnerable with you. Please heal my unbelief with a closer relationship with you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
