Devo - Jesus is Peace

Jesus is Peace
John 14:15-27

Why can't the world give us peace as Jesus can? Because Jesus, himself, is Peace. It's his very presence, and he promises to always be with us. Don't let your hearts be troubled. Neither let them be afraid. This devotion is taken from the 8th and final message in the "Becoming a Disciple" series, titled "I Am With You Always."

Why in the world can the world not give the peace that Jesus gives? Why can the world not give this peace? Because the peace is Jesus himself. Jehovah Shalom. I AM Peace. Jesus, when he says, “My peace I give to you…” his peace is himself. It’s his presence in the valley, in the shadow, in the difficulty. That’s where the peace comes from. Not from lining all the cups up in the cupboard. Alright? Not from getting all your circumstances straight. Not from fixing all the problems. But from knowing that the Person of Jesus Christ is with you. The God of All Creation is with you. He’s by your side, and he’s walking you through this situation.

The peace that Jesus is giving his first Disciples (and we are his own disciples as well) is the peace of his presence. It’s the peace that comes from what I hope my grandkids continue to feel. It’s a peace that Jesus loves me, and he’s looking out for me. And he’s doing what’s best for me. And he’s going to get me through this, and I trust him. That’s what Jesus wants us to feel.

So, the end of verse 27 says, Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Guys, God’s Word counters fear with faith. God’s Word counters fear with faith. It’s trust in who God is. It’s trust that the Lord is with us. That he is always with us, that he is always at work for our good in every circumstance. That he goes before us, and he goes behind us, and he hems us in. He is our Shield. He is our Victory. He is our Good Shepherd. And he is the source of our abundant life. This is WHO God IS.

Who God is does not change by the look of our circumstances. And who God is to us doesn’t change by the look of our circumstances. The Lord is with us, and he is good. And he will walk us through this situation just like he did the last one. Whatever your situation is. We have got to take Jesus out of our finite mind’s understanding. Because we tend to say, “God, if you’re with me, then things will be like I want them to be.” And God’s like, “Not until we trade places. But as long as I’m God and you’re not, I will be with you, but things are going to be like I want them to be.” Right?

That’s our finite mind thinking, our circumstantial thinking. This is the God who loves us enough to die for us and give us eternal life and then promises to always be with us. Is it not enough? It’s enough. It’s enough.

So, don’t let your hearts be troubled. Neither let them be afraid.
